The fish that connected the world

Taking a look back at the past helps us to understand the present and reflect on the future of a fish that has been considered a true treasure of the sea for centuries.
Kurlansky takes us on a thousand-year journey through history, following in the footsteps of a fish that has meant so much more than just food. From the Vikings and Basque fishermen to the great trade routes and the colonisation of North America, cod has played a significant yet often overlooked role in the economic, social, and cultural history of Europe and America.
Through the stories of explorers, traders, fishermen and chefs, Kurlansky reveals how this humble product has been able to feed populations, fuel expeditions, spark conflicts and transform territories.
